New Roof

Well the new roof is now complete. Cordes Builders did a very good job repairing the damaged portions of the roof and applying the new shingles, and just in time too because it has started to get cold and rainy again. In addition to the new roof, the old chimney had to come down because it was both a fire and a structural hazard. The new chimney will be installed in it's place, instead of through the cieling. After the new chimney is installed (which is now somewhat lower priority than it was) and the unsided portions of the house are dealt with all of the remaining work will be interior work...

Scrape -N- Survey

Well the last few days' main project has turned out to be scraping paint in the larger of the two bedrooms (which is destined to be my office/computer room). In addition to this we discovered that the chimney is unsuitable for a solid-fuel appliance AND is nessasary for the operation of the furnace... As I plan on buying a coal stove in the relatively near future I will need a new chimney, and since it will have to go through the roof the time to install that chimney is NOW, as the new roof goes on this week! So more important prep work is going to have to be delayed while I install the new chimney, however I don't see it taking more than a couple of days to do at the most... The upside is that I will get to see my attic for the first time, I'm just hoping not to find any nasty surprises up there...

Closing Day

As of yesterday the House and the Texas Inn are now mine. Everything at the closing went as well as could be expected, and after lunch my mother and myself went out to inspect the property.

I didn't find anything perticularly scary during my damage survey, though I have a daunting project ahead of me. I have six months, starting yesterday, to get the house into livable condition by the bank's standards! Oh well, I doubt if it will take that long...

More soon.

In the Beginning

Every project has to begin somewhere. This is my attempt to log the renovation of my new home, as well as the eventual renovation of the former Texas Inn located on my property. I am not an advocate of blogs, I chose to use one rather than a traditional web page for conveniance sake. In any event I will try to post the progress on the project as it happens...
